The purpose of Whole Man Ministries is to reach out in Christian love to the men incarcerated at the Correctional Work Center in Macon.  Our mission is to help the men find hope and purpose through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Each Sunday from 4:30-6:00, volunteers conduct Discipleship Training classes. We provide large-print Bibles, writing tablets, pens, and pencils.  During a few of our studies, we have purchased books or workbooks for each of the men.  The men take an active role in this service.  Their choir performs, and we are excited because we were allowed to purchase a key board for the choir.  Thankfully, one of the men plays, and we are all blessed each week with a wide selection of songs of praise.  Approximately 50 to 60 men attend these classes each week.  We have prayed with many of them as they have asked Christ to enter their hearts and help them to be transformed into the men that God calls them to be.  The last Sunday of each month, we have church services led by Emmanuel Baptist Church, and the following Monday night, we have movie night. Every other Monday night beginning at 7:00, volunteers lead a small-group Bible study.

We are still in the preliminary stages of building a chapel that will be located at the Work Center.  Neil Waggoner graciously volunteered to draw up the blueprints, and several churches and individuals have already contributed financially to the chapel fund. We are awaiting advice and direction from the Mississippi Department of Corrections before proceeding any further with these plans.   We ask that you pray for us as we undertake this much-needed project.  Currently, we meet in the cafeteria area of the Work Center, and some of the men have to sit on the floor because we simply do not have enough room for everyone.

A few of the special projects that we have throughout the year are the Ice Cream social and Christmas gift boxes.  If you would like to help with these projects or if you would like to become a volunteer, please contact Pooh Penick at 726-5284 or email her at This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it   Also, if you would like to make a financial donation to this ministry, please make your check out to the First United Methodist Church and specify on your check that the money is for the prison ministry or for the prison chapel.
