On Thursday, February 12th, the First United Methodist Church's NEW Women's Ministry had its first organizational meeting beginning with a delicious soup supper served by some of our sweet Methodist Men.
After enjoying the wonderful variety of soups and cake, we all settled in to begin the business of our ministry! Several projects were discussed and many ideas submitted by the women who were all eager to serve in this new ministry of our church.
We all drew names for our "Secret Sisters" and made Valentines for each other as an exercise to minister to ourselves as we set about to minister to others.
Ms. Marilyn Frantzen is our cookbook chairperson and she talked about the different avenues she has explored for our church to create a cookbook. She showed us a cookbook she did herself for her family and explained the costs and requirements to do one like hers. It was decided for us all to submit recipes to Ms. Marilyn for the cookbook by May 15th since she will be leaving for the summer after that. Her plans are to type the recipes in over the summer and have the cookbook ready for Christmas. SO Everyone needs to go through their recipe files and pull out the best recipes they have and send them to Ms. Marilyn by May 15th. Her email address is

. Please send them to her there or leave a copy at the church office. Also, try to find some of those recipes that you have actually made and brought to a church function. I personally would like to have some of those recipes that have shown up at the Hayride, at the Sunrise service, at the special Wednesday theme nights, at the Cantata receptions. . .
Jolynn Cotton and Pam Adams are working on a trip for the women of the church. They have checked into trips to Williamsburg, Opryland, and Branson. Sunday while in the fellowship hall, Debbie Wilkins Whitfield also suggested a trip to New Mexico sometime this summer. The details for these potential trips are still being worked out and as soon as something is decided, we'll let everyone know.
One of the women's ministry's projects will be the "Stock the Freezer" project. We plan to spend one Saturday at the fellowship hall cooking meals to freeze. These frozen meals will be available to send to families that are in need either through illness, death, surgery, or whatever. The date for the Saturday has not been determined. See Ann Tindal for more information.
We need a name for our group. Please let Pooh know if you have any suggestions for a name.
Mary Ann Gray will chair the Parent's Night Out project. This project will allow parents to drop their children off at our church one Friday night so they can have a break while we keep their children. We will plan activities for the children while their parents enjoy a night off.
Linda Simpson is working on a Prayer Chain. She needs everyone's cell phone numbers and email addresses so that we can immediately connect with each other when someone needs immediate prayers, or we need to get out immediate information to all our church members. See Linda Simpson to give her your information.
We are collecting supplies for the 2nd grade classes our church has adopted. The items needed are pencils, notebooks, copy paper, and paper towels. Please bring these items to the lower sanctuary by March 1st.
Ms. Ann Tindal is getting together a Beth Moore Bible Study for women to begin sometime after Spring Break. It will be a 5 week study. Check this website for more details.
Most of the women at the meeting made a pledge to attend Sunday School for the next month. We all agreed that Sunday School was fundamental in our Christian life and of this Church.
Pooh suggested we have a fund-raiser by making and selling the paper Moravian Stars like she made one Sunday during Christmas and gave to everyone. Plans for having a booth during the Dancing Rabbit Festival were discussed.
All in all, it was a very successful meeting. Already I've heard of ladies receiving a "Happy" from their Secret Sister. Many women were present for Sunday School. There is a general feeling of anticipation and hopefullness among the women of the church now. If you missed the meeting and want to participate in one of the activities discussed in this article, please contact Pooh Penick or the person designated over that project. Here are some pictures from this meeting. CLICK HERE WOMENS MINISTRY.
