It was in November of 1834, under the sponsorship of the Alabama Conference, that the Macon Methodist Episcopal Church was organized and taken into the Noxubee Circuit.  Rev. Elisha Calloway was named Pastor in November of that same year.

Fast forward to January 2009 . . .
One Hundred and Seventy-Five years later . . .

First United Methodist Church is still here and still faithful.

Planning began last year to celebrate this momentous occasion.  Bro. Stacy and others have contacted former pastors and arranged for them to come back to First Methodist and for them each to lead one Sunday morning worship service throughout this year.  A potluck dinner will be held in the fellowship hall following each worship service.  Everyone is encouraged to invite friends and family for these special services.   Not only are some of the former pastors coming back to First Methodist to preach this coming year, but also there are other special events planned to celebrate this special anniversary of the church.

A REVIVAL is planned for March 29 through April 1 with the Rev. Dale Hathorn speaking.  His father, Rev. Howard Hathorn, was the pastor here at First Methodist in 1965 to 1969.

Special musical events are also planned.  An Organ Recital by Mr. Bob Peden is tentatively scheduled for June 19th or 20th.  Mr. Peden's grandfather, the Rev. Milton Peden, was pastor here.  Rev. Peden is now deceased, but his wife will attend the recital.  A reception in the fellowship hall will follow the recital.

On Friday, October 30, an Organ and Voice Recital is scheduled with Faser Hardin, his wife, Annie Hardin, and his daughter, Abigail Hardin.  A reception in the fellowship hall will follow the recital.

An official celebration of the 175th Anniversary is scheduled for November 1st with our own Morgan Roberts preaching.  Rev. Dr. Bob Rambo will be presiding over the service, and Faser Hardin will be providing the special music. . . AND of course, a covered dish dinner in the fellowship hall will follow the service.

Scheduled to speak throughout this coming year are as follows:

February 15  --  Rev. Jack Williams

REVIVAL!  March 29 - April 1  --  Rev. Dale Hathorn

May 24  --  Rev. Bill Poole

July 19  --  Rev. Claude Fleming, Jr.

November 1  --  Morgan Roberts

Other former preachers have been invited to speak, and we are awaiting their replies.  Keep checking back to this website for updates concerning the 175th anniversary year-long celebration!

This is a truly special time in the life of our Church.  Begin to pray daily for our church and for these pastors, our REVIVAL, and other special events that we may have a blessed and beautiful celebration of our Church this entire year.  Let's look forward and continue this blessed Church into the next 175 years!  God bless!
