On Monday evening, members of the Administrative Council met at Easy Street in preparation for the upcoming Consecration Sunday. Why did we gather? To give our Consecration Sunday the "maximum spiritual impact among our congregation's members" according to Mary Ann Gray, our Consecration Sunday Chairperson.
We enjoyed a sweet fellowship during the meal with each other before hearing a brief message regarding the spiritual-growth dimensions of stewardship from Jim Orman, a retired Methodist minister. Here are a few pictures of our meeting - CLICK HERE.
Rev. Orman didn't preach about stewardship of our income, but focused on other aspects of stewardship, those being our pledges to give not only our tithes, but also are talents, presence, and gifts to the Lord. He pointed out that our very Life was a Gift from God as well as everything we have. Because of these gifts from God, Orman said we should put the Lord first in our lives -- that we should make God a priority. He quoted several scriptures in support of this statement.
Of course, we know this. But do we do it? Is our presence at church on Sunday and Wednesday a priority, or do we have other "priorities" getting in the way of our attendance at worship? Have you seen the numbers for Sunday School attendance at our Church? Makes you think.
Orman said we all have talents that we can give to the church. Even if you don't have the money to give, Orman said everyone has talents and gifts that the church can use to further God's kingdom. He gave an example of a woman of meager means that he knew from one of his earliest churches as a young minister. Although she didn't have the resources to give to the church monetarily, she gave the church her service in cleaning the sanctuary every Monday morning -- picking up bulletins, straightening up, etc.
Many in our church have given of themselves throughout the years as the church needed it. Mr. Jeff Terrill comes to my mind. For years, he emptied the trash in the offices and bathrooms of the church every week along with other tasks as needed in the church. I know Karen misses his company every week now that he doesn't come to town every day. Who's taking out the trash? I guess the cleaning crew we pay. Mr. Jeff did it because he loved the Lord and he loved the Lord's church.
Stewardship is so much more than the dollar amount you give. Jim Orman stated that a steward is one who takes care of things for the Master. Likewise, He stated that we are to be stewards for our Lord in everything we do and everything we have. Remember it is all from God -- our Master -- and we are to take care of it for Him. Orman said that is in taking care of our family, in our jobs, and in how we serve our church.
We've all seen the posters around the church proclaiming, "It's Coming November 15th!" Well, people it's here!
This Sunday is a special day in the life of our church. It is a day to reflect on the gifts we have received from our God. It is a day to reflect on what being a good steward means to us as individuals and as Christians.
Jim Orman is giving the message during this Sunday's morning worship service. He's funny. He delivers a good message. After hearing him speak last Monday night, I am really looking forward to hearing him speak this Sunday. I hope to see you there as well. We will have a Celebration Luncheon immediately following the worship service. It will be a catered meal, not a potluck dinner.
You may get a visit from one of the Administrative Council members between now and Sunday to see if you're coming to this special service and meal. We're trying to get a "head-count" for the meal. Let Karen Robertson know if you plan to attend so we can plan accordingly.

On Sunday, November 1st, First United Methodist Church of Macon celebrated 175 years as Church. Established in 1834, our church is still faithful and strong in this special 2009 year. The special anniversary has been celebrated throughout the year with ministers from our church's past coming back to lead a worship service. This weekend was the culmination of the year's activities with a very special Organ Concert by Faser Hardin on Friday, October 30th. On Sunday, we held a magnificent worship service to a crowd of two hundred people - some who are members from our past and some who are our friends from the community. Faser Hardin played the church organ as the full choir sang filling the sanctuary with the most wonderful sounds. Morgan Stuart Roberts gave the morning message encouraging us to be "methodical" as the first Methodists were in Evangelism, Discipleship, and in Compassionate Ministries. She did a wonderful job.
We had many things to celebrate on that special day. Mrs. Dotsy Hardin turned 90 years old on Sunday. Having her son, Faser, play the church organ during the worship service was probably very special for her on this birthday. Many of Mrs. Dotsy's family were there to celebrate with her including Mr. Bobby and Mrs. Barbara Crespino.
In the last couple of years, several young women who grew up in our Church have had children. Many of them were here for this special service. We couldn't resist getting them all together for a picture. We missed getting Nicole, Ashia and Vicky in the picture, but they and their babies were at the service as well.
Here are some pictures from the Meal following the Service. CLICK HERE FOR ANNIVERSARY PICTURES.
OUR ANNUAL CHURCH HAYRIDE:
On Sunday evening, October 25th, First United Methodist Church had its annual church hayride at Easy Street. The food was plenty and delicious, and the fellowship was infectious and genuine. We started off the night sampling the many appetizers and desserts that was brought before participating in the White Elephant Bingo game. Children and adults played together several games before moving on to the fire outside to roast hotdogs and marshmallows. We had two hayrides, one in the early evening as the sun was setting, and one after dark. Many thanks to Randy Ewing for driving the tractor. Before the evening ended, the children got to "trunk or treat" for candy. We all had a great time. Here are some pictures from the HAYRIDE. CLICK HERE.
