We give thanks to God for the people of Macon. You have been so generous in your spirit of hospitality and through your welcoming spirit we have felt the presence and love of God.
Macon First has such a great and wholesome tradition. How great it is to be able to use that tradition as a launching pad into even greater ministry in this community and beyond. George Barna stated it so well when he said, "If we want the Christian faith and church to remain a vibrant alternative to the world system, we must stop reacting and start anticipating."
As we anticipate this ministry together I believe we are in for a great blessing from God.

Lots of Activity at Our Church This Week:
CAMP MACON held a car wash in our parking lot that was free to everyone who wanted their vehicle washed. There was a boy with a MEGAphone who encouraged people driving down the street to stop for the free car wash. The Ferrells got their van washed and actually received many compliments. (Apparently, the van has been very dirty.) CAMP Macon was another success this year thanks to so many people who volunteered. Great job everyone!

On Sunday, July 19th, we welcomed the Rev. Claude Fleming who led the worship service that Sunday at First United Methodist Church. He and his wife, Janice, served our church from 1987 to 1990. This special Sunday morning service was a part of our church's 175th Anniversary Celebration where we have invited past preachers to come and lead a worship service sometime during this year of our church. Following Rev. Fleming's service, we all enjoyed a potluck dinner in the fellowship hall. Here are some pictures from this great time of fellowship and fun. FLEMING PICTURES CLICK HERE.
MISSIONS:
Finish line projects for New MSU Wesley Foundation building: (1) Cleaning underbrush adjacent to property, (2) improving drainage in a few problem areas, (3) planting flowers, shrubs, ground cover, etc., and (4) painting metal handrails. Those willing to join the pastor and work on this project, call the pastor or church office. A time will be set.
ADMINISTRATIVE COUNCIL MEETING:
The Administrative Council met on Monday, July 13, 2009. Here a few of the council meeting's highlights:
** We have set a goal to increase church attendance by 30% by January 1, 2010. Help us make that goal a reality by attending worship.
** We want to have a Sunday School Breakfast to kick off this upcoming Church year.
** We are having a Back To School Swimming Party for the children at Nicky and Vicky Rogers' home on Sunday, August 2nd at 5:30 p.m.
** Cindy Harvey has worked hard on the church library and wants to have an open house type of event to give everyone a chance to see the library and what it has to offer our members.
** The Finance committee is planning a special Stewardship program for the church similar to one we did several years ago. Let Mary Ann Gray know if you want to help.
** Wednesday night meals will resume on August 12th at 6:00 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to bring a dish. We will have theme meals once a month as well.
** Pooh gave a report on GALS, the Women's Ministry group. A Bible Study is planned for the Fall. We will begin the Stock the Freezer project in the Fall. Our prayer chain by texting has begun. A women's conference is scheduled in October 23 - 24 in Tupelo at the Bancorpsouth Arena, and we would like to take a group to it. Pooh gave a report on Whole Man Ministries. We need donations for the Christmas bags we give the prisoners. Money would be great or either 93 identical items for each bag. There are 93 inmates in the work center. With hurricane season approaching, Pooh wants to set up a Disaster Relief Committee from our church. See Pooh if interested in being on the committee.
** SPR report: Ray Penick welcomed our new pastor.
** Trustees report: Dan Cotton reported that all the bats have been removed from the church attic. The roof on the church and the fellowship hall will have to be replaced sometime in the next 5 years and it will take $50.000 to do it. They are still waiting on a bid for the organ repair. The last bid was for $45.000 and that was to repair the organ pipes. We had hoped to get it done before Faser Hardin's concert.
** Worship report: Ann Tindal said we are getting ready for the 175th Anniversary service on November 1st.
